Optical pulse compression based on nonlinear silicon waveguides and chirped Bragg gratings
Due to the growing demand for higher bandwidth, employing optical devices instead of electronic devices in data transmission systems has attracted much attention in recent years. Optical switches, modulators and wavelength converters are a few examples of the required optical devices. CMOS compatible fabrication of these devices, leads to much more growing of this technology. Optical pulse comp...
متن کاملIntegrated Optical Waveguide Device for Picosecond Pulse Compression
We report on the fabrication and characterization of a new device, named IRIS. It is designed to increase the coherent optical bandwidth of a picosecond pulse train for subsequent pulse compression. The IRIS device consists of a concatenated array of semiconductor optical amplifiers and saturable absorbers. It is realized in the InP/InGaAsP material system for the 1550 nm range. Measurements on...
متن کاملIsir Subpicosecond Pulse Radiolysis System
The highest time resolution of the pulse radiolysis had remained about 30 ps since the late 1960’s. To make clear the primary processes in the radiation chemistry and physics within 30 ps, we developed a stroboscopic pulse radiolysis system for the absorption spectroscopy with the time resolution of 2.0 ps (10-90% rise time). The time resolution of 2.0 ps was estimated from the time-dependent b...
متن کاملMeasurement of Subpicosecond Electron Pulse Length*
A new frequency-resolved bunch-length measuring system has been developed at the Stanford SUNSHINE facility to characterize subpicosecond electron pulses. Using a far-infrared Michelson interferometer, this method measures the spectrum of coherent transition radiation emitted from electron bunches through optical autocorrelation. The electron bunch length is obtained from the measurement with a...
متن کاملNonlinear pulse propagation in optical fibers.
We discuss the propagation of nonlinear optical pulses in fibers. The wave equation is solved taking the radial dependence in an average way. The radius versus wavelength curves for "no dispersion" in SiO(2) glass are calculated and plotted. These no-dispersion curves separate the regions of light and dark solitons supported by the fibers.
